Hi,
I usually frequent the Diabetes or GERD forum but saw your post. I have the symptoms of IBS. 3 years ago I had an endoscopy that revealed chronic gastritis and hiatal hernia (thus the dx of GERD). Last year I had a colonoscopy which stated that I had moderate diverticulosis throughout the entire colon. The gastroenterologist said that as people age this often develops. He said if you have constipation problems and strain during BM's it will increase the amount of diverticula that forms. In my case, my colon was clear otherwise with no cancers, abscesses or obstructions. My endo never said anything about removal of the colon other than this can happen in rare cases. He said most people have little or no problems with it, and that symptoms that do present are often similar to IBS. He said that in most cases increasing fiber and water intake and avoiding straining during BM's is all that's needed. He also recommended Activa yogurt if mild symptoms do present.

Has anyone ever had diverticulosis throughout the entire colon? My colonoscopy report says I have stool in some of them - specifically one in the acending colon has stool (and there are multiple diverticula there), and some stool is in the diverticula in the splenic flexure (that is where I have had my last two infections). The docs are talking I will need to possibly have my entire colon removed. I am only 43 and I have Crohns as well.
Anyone with info that would be great if you can write me.
Thanks.
