hey wonderful people!

i take refridgerated acidophilus religiously. i stopped for two days as a test and noticed a difference. i am headed on a cruise this saturday and i know i am not the first person who wants to keep meds in the fridge, but i don't want to make a fuss either.
is there a non-refridgerated brand anyone can recommend? or should i just pack a small cooler and get ice on the trip--or make arrangements with the crew?
this all may seem silly to you, but i finnally feel good and i have a new job--i have actually worked a solid three weeks with only one day out!! (i have been getting nasty periods...) so i want to keep my good health and this acidophilus is a big part of my regimen...

Hey!

I too took refrigerated acidophilus before I started taking two digeste advantages a day, so I figured I might as well stop taking the refrigerated kind. Anyway, we called the dude at the organic food store we bought the acidophilus from, and he said that even the refridgerated kinds will last a good 5-7 days not refrigerated, as long as they are at room temperature. They do lose a little potency not being refrigerated but he said its not enough to make a difference. If you still are concerned, I would say pack a little cooler.

I take Kyo-Dophilus and it is not refrigerated (room temp). I've also found some chalky Acidophilus pills (GNC Brand) that have 5 billion CFU that does not need to be refrigerated. I think it works really well too because the 1st time (and only) I took it I had major gas. **I think 5 billion was too much for me at once.**

I have read in articles online that there is evidence that even dead, good bacteria can still help your guts, so I'd think it wouldn't matter too much if you killed some of them off by letting them get too hot. If this is only a one-day thing, then I certainly wouldn't get fussed about it. If it's a longer thing, where you have your own room, then you should have access to an ice machine just like in a regular hotel and you should be able to keep your bottle on ice in your room.

I take Acidophalous and Probiotic combo and it doesn't need to be refrigerated and I think it works better than when I took the refrigerated one. I always take Phazme (166 simethicone) with me when I travel. I get mine at Trader Joes' stores but I know everyone doens't have them. Almost all cruise cabins have refrigerators now.

since it is a week long thang, i have decided to pack what i have been taking and utilizing the ice bucket/cooler idea--and even better if the cabin has a fridge!
