No, it does not take care of a bacterial infection. It just puts good bacteria into your intestines. It doesn't treat an infection in your sinuses or ear canal, or tonsils or anywhere else you can set up an infection.
Just go see a regular doctor and tell him you're feeling lathargic, your ears seem stopped up (because you can't hear as well), etc. A lot of times colds and other things going around have a certain "look" to them. You may not understand what your symtpoms are, but your doctor may very well say, oh, yes, this is something that's going around because everyone's having the same thing; here take this for it because it seems to work.
I got viral arthritis last year, which even my mother, a nurse, had never heard of. But then my husband got it, and when we were on a re-enacting vaction and he was complaining about it to someone else, that man said he'd had the same thing earlier in the winter. So weird stuff gets around, but your doctor should have already seen it and have a pretty good idea of how to treat it.
