IBS-C with gastroperesis helpful hints

hi, its hungry again, I actually can't keep anything except small amounts of liquid or I just throw up. My doctor said that people with gastroperesis cannot tolerate fiber. I've lost 18 pounds and I'm getting a little nervous.

Hi there- Let me just start by saying that that dx is a difficult one.  They (the MD's) were ruling it out with me at first. After a gastric emptying scan, I was found to have a delay that was noticeable but not severe enough to warrant a gastroparesis dx.  (my main symptom was severe nausea)  My gatroenterologist put me on Reglan as it acts as a digetive tract stimulator. This particular med is also used for nausea and vomiting.  Now, people have differing opinions on this med. as long term use of it has the potential to cause what's called Tardive Dyskinesia (common in long term chronically mentally ill patients who have been on old antipsychotics- involving the involunatry movement of mainly the face and tongue but sometimes other parts of the body)  However, when he put me on it, it does say, 'take for no more than 8 weeks at a time'.  NOW that being said, I'm not suggesting this drug for you but there may be other meds you can take for this with less side effects (and you won't necessarily get this side effect but there's always the chance which is why I do not take it- the nausea has improved since my acupuncture tx's but if it gets that bad again, I will be reconsidering this decision) Anyway, you didn't say if you've tried meds yet and they may or may not be the answer for you.  But it sounds like you're having an awful hard time with this right now.  Good luck and please remember I am NOT suggesting Reglan for you necessarily and again because of the potential side effects.  I hope you find an answer soon.  This is no way to live.  I'll be sending you good thoughts and hoping tomorrow is a better day!  Good night to all.
