IBS with vomiting

Has anyone had involuntary vomiting with the cramping of IBS ?

Consistent vomiting with IBS should be looked in to. Have you seen a GI doc?

Vomiting is not very common with IBS, although the pain can get so bad that some people do become sick. The gall bladder should always be checked in these cases as vomiting is a common side effect of it, along with bowel problems and intense pain. You should also have an endoscopy and biopsy to check for ulcers/h.pylori bacteria and acid reflux damage, as these things can also cause vomiting and pain, and sometimes bowel problems in their own right (your bowel problems can also be independent of any stomach problems).

I'm a newbie, just wanted to pop in and say hello to you guys!

So would I like to answer the vomit topic. I have been seeing some doctors the latest 3 years. They told me that I probably had IBS. During every visit I asked if vomiting is a symptom too, but they always ignored the question. You see, my problem is cramps and vomiting for may be 6-10 hours each time I get sick. I also periodically have some diarrhea, this alters with soft stool, hard stool and constipation. Every time I have this vomiting experience I am freezing so much my teeth are clappering. I also have a little fever now and then. There is also a lot of gaz after a meal. When I vomit I often do it after a dinner meal, and it looks like brocolli and some other vegetables (for inst. bambooshots) makes me vomit. I am often extremely tired, and have waaay too low iron levels.

Finally a doctor sent me to gastroscopy, colonoscopy and x-ray with barium. Now the GI says it could be Crohns. Next week I am going to have a MR and meet a spesialist.

 t's a shame that I have used more than 3 years trying to tell different doctors about my symptoms and they haven't even written the informations I gave them in my papers. I got a copy, and there isn't a word about all the vomiting, cramps, freezing and fever. All those are typical Crohns disease!

thanx a lot 7Lil. Yes, i've just been registrating myself at the Crohn's forum. May be it's a bit early to do that, or may be not , the thing is, as I wrote, the doctors haven't finished diagnosing me, but so far they've found a narrowing in the small intestine, and they've also found quite high levels in a fecal test. These levels says something about the grade / amount of the inflamation that's going on, and the levels are quite elevated as well. They are at least 10x more than normal levels in a healthy person.
They haven't scoped me yet, the last scope I had was almost a year ago, and the colon was normal then.
They won't let me have a capsule endoscopy, and I really understand why- so I hope the MR is as effective as a c.e.
Looking forward to find out something, and since I'm such an optimist I think they will dx me with IBS.

Good luck with the MR. Please keep us posted on the outcome. We will be keeping our fingers crossed that you do NOT come back with an IBD diagnosis... we hope it is "just IBS."

I have exactly the same issues as you do, right down to the bamboo sprouts! In the past I believed that my episodes were the result of stress or high acidity foods (such as tomato, alcohol, chocolate, sweets), and fat of course. However I often get sick after eating eggs, and last night, bamboo sprouts! One other thing that is emerging as a trigger is bodywork such as acupuncture or massage. These therapies stimulate the release of toxins from tissues into the intestines where they can be eliminated. This is the good news, however if I don't drink a ton of water after a treatment I can get very sick. I've also found that it usually takes a combination of several triggers before I get sick. Such as eating the wrong food on the same day as a treatment. Or drinking alcohol during a stress episode.

My doctor says I have IBS but after reading many of these posts, it doesn't seem that vomiting frequently is a typical symptom. I have heard that eggs can upset the gall bladder. My doc did check my gall bladder and liver but I wonder if I need a more thorough examination of that possibility.

I hope you have found some answers and relief now that 2 years have passed.

OUCH_IBS, Anxiety contributes to IBS.

I would not take a lot of pepto, but it might help some once in a while.

The vomiting is from pain? Because it is a red flag symptom. But can happen to some, but rare.

Not sure what the IBS kit is your talking about here.

How long has it been since your were diagnosed and have seen a doctor?

Its good your seeing your doctor.

I developed IBS from Post Infectious IBS in Mexico when I was 10 and am now 50.

I would ask the doctor about the Kit. Its basically a herbal formula, some of these things can help and some not so much.

Sometimes its also better to try one thing at a time and see what works.

I can extremely severe pain. I use to get it around four times a week and sometimes twice a day. It can last for 15 minutes up to the whole day.

Hypnotherapy for IBS helped me immensely with pain and coping with it.

When I first did it I went from all those attacks a week to one a year, but that has changed again after 6 years and I was having some problems recently with it. But I use relaxation techniques to calm the brain gut axis, mainly hypnotherapy. My IBS pain can stop everything I am doing to the point of not being able to move almost at all.

But I have learned a ton about dealing with it, from research to practical issues.

I also take a med for high blood pressure, but its also being used off label for my IBS. Its can calm the nervous systems down.

Some people have IBS and are misdiagnosed and get there gallbladder out.

There is a "specific cluster of IBS symptoms minus red flag symptoms that lead to a IBS diagnoses. Although, this also doesn't mean a person can have more then one thing going on at a time.

This is why its important to work with the right doctor as well.

Have you ever heard of the rome criteria?

The Rome criteria are used to diagnose Functional gi conditions. You should look at this?
