I am in shock a doctor, reputable at that, would suggest a colon cleanse like this. I've had 7 colonoscopies, 2 major colon surgeries - that is a total of 9 colon preps. None of them suggested a colon cleanse! My surgeries required a 2 day liquid diet, first day all liquids, second day liquids but 2 bowel preps/laxatives beginning at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. (Cit Mag or Fleet's Phos. Soda). The colonoscopies required 1 day liquid diets (but truthfully I ate light 2 days prior to my procedure) with Fleet's at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Followed by 1 or 2 Fleet's Enemas! Which of course I didn't do, b/c anytime I do an enema it kicks my colon muscles into high gear and I'd never be able to leave home, even though at this point it would be water coming out. The cramping would be awful! But never has any of my doctors and/or nurses suggested a colon cleanse.
There seems to be two camps on this debate - the medical community (where I put most of my trust) and the homeopathic/hollistic/fix all/pop an herbal pill camp.
You could not pay me to to do a colon cleanse!
I would highly suggest having your doctor's credidentials checked out.
I guess I missed that important detail - I've known plenty of relatives/friends and medical board patients who have gone thru colonoscopy bowel preps and I honestly cannot recall one single person stating they were instructed to get a colon cleanse, instead of the usual bowel laxative preps (Fleet's, CitMag, GoLytyly, the 40+ pill laxative options, etc.).
Okay I'm done. I would be sorely tempted to cancel a colonoscopy with this doctor and look for one who would prescribe the usual, typical, safe bowel preps!
I'm done...thanks for reading. Major red flags were going up with this colon cancer survivor! Sorry if I offended you but I was alarmed reading that your doctor recommended such a thing!
