Hi, this is my first post, been reading for awhile, anyways I would like to get some feed back on either of these products for IBS. Digestrol or Heather's Tummy Products

My daughter have been battling this for over 11 years (She is 20 now) Her social life consists mainly of her room and the computer. She won't leave the house, besides that she has a great personality, she is social when her brother friends come over to the house, but that is it.

We did try one, Advantage, that worked except she stayed bloated and kept getting more bloated. After 2 months she went off of it, because what was the swelling doing on the inside of her?

The swelling finally went done, we don't want that to happen again. SO any advice will help us in deciding. Thanks again..sorry for the long post

Karen, i have used the peppermint, fennel, ginger capsules and they worked for nausea and general digestive problems. I don't have diahrea and that may be what is keeping her at home. If it is not diahrea then there should be no other reason why she doesn't want to be gone from home. Is is possible that she has just fallen into a pattern and maybe has a phobia now about going out. Without realizing this it can happen after a person has been house. It is just a thought. Has she had all the tests to rule out everything intestinally? Done the diet elimination thing, been tested for allergies, etc. Let us know what tests have been done and maybe someone can suggest something. Really don't know enough about her situation. She could be misdiagnosed.

Hi, her problem at staying home is the fear of a car ride and not finding a restroom. Or if we go somewhere I have to make sure there is a restroom, BUT when I have done this, (finding a restroom) we would go and the bathroom will be out of order!!! That has happened twice to us, so in her mind, this will always be a major problem. So, go out and have a heart attack or stay home? The answer, to her, is stay home and deal with it. This is no life for her, believe me we have tried everything, but NO medicine, the side effects are worse that the problem itself. I have done research and IBS can cause some phobias, depends on the person. The only test done that night in the emergency room was from a Doctor that had IBS running in his family!! He knew exactly what it was. ( This was after 4 emergency rooms visits, stool samples, and about 5 office visits).

Perhaps someone else can address this that is in the same situation. I know there are many on this forum. I am surprised that no on has suggested increasing calcium as that will tend to slow down diahrea. I am just not sure which is the best but someone will. I assume she has had all the CT scans, colonscopy,etc. to find out if there is nothing wrong physically. I know there are many with this problem around this forum. No, it isn't anyway to live and I hope a solution is found.
