I just got back.  Here is why I went in:

The past 4 nights, after I have eaten dinner, within 30 min I get excrutiating pain...my stomach bloats up, I get nausea and I have a pulling sensation/achey pain in my right upper quadrant.

Last night was bad, and this morning when I woke up the pain was still there.  I decided to go to the ER.  They drew blood...everything was normal.  Did an ultrasound on my right side...everything was normal.  The only thing that showed up with the blood work is that my lymphocytes were slightly elevated (I have hyperthyroidism and also had mono a few years ago, so I am thinking this could be the reason why).

They sent me home and told me to call my GI...as I have IBS/colonic inertia and am scheduled for a total colectomy in March.  As I sit here, I still have this pain...what could it be?  Something simply isn't right!!  I feel sick.  Anyone?

Bear in mind I am just a novice at this, colon cancer survivor, living without a sigmoid and gall bladder and struggling with IBS-like symptoms but my first reaction to your post/topic was until you see or talk to your GI doc, I would follow a liquid diet. I wouldn't introduce many solids into your diet until you know what is going on here. If this is a pattern for you, pain after solids/food intake, then I'd get to the bottom of this - ASAP. I know it's a Holiday weekend and all, so the timing isn't good, but call him and don't delay.

I would second Marsky's advice and maybe take it easy with the food the rest of the weekend until you can call your doc. Maybe try some Ensure or another supplement. If your lymphocytes were only slightly elevated, that's not really cause for alarm in the absence of other blood markers (although I don't think it has anything to do with being hyperthyroid or having had mono, honestly). Here's a question - how was your hyperthyroidism treated? Are you on meds for that?

I just woke up...I have been asleep this whole time.  Umm...I had postpartum thyroiditis (only in the hyper stage).  It has been monitored, no need for medicine. 

Do you think I should call tomorrow or wait till Monday?  Sarita...you know I take laxatives and/or warm water enemas to move my bowels b/c nothing else works...the last time I went was Tuesday.  Do you think I should take anything or give myself an enema? Do think it could be an obstruction?

I really can't speculate as to what it may be, especially with your history. Usually obstructions will present with vomiting and they're hard to miss. However, it's not unheard of to have partial obstructions that cause intermittent pain. Have you taken anything since Tuesday to have a BM? What did the ER say about not having a BM for this long? Your GI isn't in the office tomorrow, probably, and may not be on Monday since it's a holiday...it's really going to be your call, but if you start vomiting or feel significantly worse, I'd go back to the ER.

No, the ER docs didn't say a word.  Our hospital truly isn't the greatest.  The ER doc didn't know what half the tests were that I have had on my bowels...just tests they don't commonly do in emergency I guess. 

Let's put it this way, if I didn't give myself enemas or take laxatives I am almost positive I would end up in the ER with an obstruction...so it is pretty much a preventative measure I take.
