Hi, I am new to this website- I'm glad I've found it!  My doctor prescribed Amitiza and today is my.... 3rd day taking 1 pill each day.  Things are moving a bit, but there is gas and bloat.  I've had a fuzzy headache and cough.....  I can't tell if I'm just sick or if it is related to the meds.  I think (but am not sure) that I was starting to get sick before I started the Amitiza.  The mucus I'm coughing up is green, so I'm guess there isn't a connect.   Anyways, I am just trying to get a feel for other people's experience with this med.  I've have constipation/bloat/gas problems for...19 years (am 31 now) and haven't figured out a solution (s).  I've seen soooooo many MDs, NDs, Chinese Medicine practitioners.....  I'll look through this site a bit more.  Thanks!

The med made me nauseous and I'd threw up.

My GI doctor prescribed it for me. But when I was talking to my surgeon and telling him the meds the GI doctor tried. When I told him about Amitiza and that it made me throw up he chuckled and said, "Yeah, it makes a lot of people throw up."

Wish I had known that beforehand.

None of the meds the GI doctor tried for me works because my colon had basically shut down. Had it taken out Oct 07 and now I'm able to go to the bathroom regularly :)

Hope you have a better experience with it than I did.

Welcome to the site. I hope we can help you in some way. I have never taken this med, but wanted to just give you some helpful things that I have found successful for me. I have sufferred from both IBS C and D since age 19 and also am 31. I use digestive advantage once a day. It takes a while to see real results, but I love it! Regular chiropractic care with a doctor that adjusts the entire body, bone by bone will do amazing things, especially for gas. Also, developing a regular exercise routine has helped me a lot!!! I can't tell you how much!!! When you are having trouble, try a heating pad for pain or some gas x. I wish you the best of luck. Sleep well.

I am on the medication and it is incredible.  I have occasional nausea but my doctor told me to eat 1/2 my meal and then take it.  If I get the nausea it goes away in about 30 min but it has done great things.  Every drug has side effects but it has been very good.  I think some people who have extreme nausea either don't take it with food or hardly any food at all.  Its been a great for me and others.

I've been on it for about two years now,when I first started taking it gave me the runs just for two days,cause the doctor had told me that was normal it was just my body getting used to it.But it works very well for me I have bms everyday.From where I was feeling constipated for weeks it's such a relieve to have found something that helps with moving my bowels.I pray that it will work for you,but I've never experienced nausea or vomiting with it thank God.Just keep with it maybe things will change for you,wishing you all the best.
