"The Colon Card!"

I had a meltdown today of sorts, our A/C is out and we have a repairman coming Monday (looks like it's not a simple fix, ie blown fuse or a recharge, but rather it's a 20 yo central air system that needs to be replaced). I've put up with high humidity, high temps, uncomfortable sleeping nights (3 in a row!) and THEN my colon acts up. Yep, the oh so fun D today......

And oh, forgot, I got a migraine today too. Usually a dark, cool room, Motrin and caffeine takes care of it. Well, our house is 87 degrees and we're in a draught here in Cincinnati, very sunny days, nary a raincloud in sight......

So I sort of lost it tonight, I turned into a biotch for my family to witness. Whilst running to the bathroom too.

What fun!

At one point hubby declared - oh here she goes, she's playing "the colon card"!

The colon card.....that's when they shut me right up. I guess I was complaining a bit too much. If we didn't have such a tight budget, I'd be sitting in a hotel room right now! But when you feel just crappy and cannot get any relief from this relentless summer heat, well, I just wanted to stick my head in the freezer!

So's anyway, just wanted to share.....and vent a bit.

I'm sure come Monday evening or Tuesday at the latest our house will be cool again. I CANNOT wait!

And I grew up without A/C......I swear but I don't know we slept back then! I do remember sleeping outside many nights though......a bunch of friends and I would choose someone's yard and we'd arrange chaise lounges to sleep on top of. By early morning, one by one everyone had gone home to their own beds. LOL!

When we go boating and I'm the spotter (skiing and tubing), I dunk a small hand towel in the lake, wring it out and drape it over my neck. Sounds wacky but it works like a charm keeping me cool.

I am tempted to walk around this house with a wet towel tomorrow! Our daughter has a piano recital at a music store located in a mall. I think we will go EARLY! LOL

Thanks for letting me vent....It's been 9 years now and I guess I've used that "colon card" a bit too much with my family. But people with normal colons just do not get what we go thru!

That is what I find so irritating. I wish they'd trust us when we say - we do not feel normal! Ha, far from it....couple my IBS woes today with no A/C and then a migraine! I might as well just had my period too....he he

Funny you should say that, my mom swears by holding an ice cube to her wrist!

I never thought I could get used to A/C this much. I grew up without it, didn't have it during my first marriage and our home (older bungalow). When I remarried, it was the first time I had ever slept in A/C (1986)! Besides vacations.......now I am spoiled I guess. 22 years later and I can't live without it. I'm 53 and to the best of my knowledge menopause has not started yet or if it has, it's not like the horror stories I've heard of. Anyway, now my family is wondering if the big M has started too.

Yes according to them, I am so much fun to live with these days - he he.

Oh BTW, we keep our A/C set on 78 degrees. So like you, we keep it high so save $, etc. I usually freeze in restaurants and movie theaters in the summer. I keep a lightweight jacket in the car. My hubby likes to play blackjack once or twice a year. If we go during the summer, the casino is like a freezer! I really freeze when we go if it's the summer. They must keep A/C set on 68 t 72 (restaurants, movie theaters and definitely casino's!).

I think part of the reason I am having a hard time of it right now is our house has many windows, some fixed without blinds on them (we have a 2 story family room with high up transom windows). When the inside of your house registers 87, there is just no relief!

Until tomorrow....can't wait!

Last month we lost power for eight hours, it was 103 during the day, at 11pm it was still 99. I can take it, just open up the windows or go outside; my wife, and year old son; however, cannot take the heat like that. We went to my dad's house a mile or two away and waited it out there, it finally came back on shortly after 1am, I kept calling the house waiting for my answering machine to pickup, that way I knew the power was on, lol.

My wife put up with me though, I lost it a few times, especially in our tiny, no airflow bathroom. I was freaking out in there, I swear I could have died of heat stroke in there. A few minutes here, a few minutes there, not the easiest way of getting through an episode, but do what you gotta do to get by. I was relieved to get to Dad's with AC, especially in the bathroom.

It seems the only time my wife has a fit about my issues are when they interfere with her plans. It never fears that when we get ready to go somewhere my tummy starts acting up, doesn't help she gets a grouchy to me about it, but she does every time. But she hasn't ever done anything like that to me, especially not in front of anyone. She knows I am a secluded person anyways, and definitely hate being put into any spotlights, so she knows if she did something like that she would be in major trouble with me later. She has had medical issues in the past that have forced us to leave, avoid, or cancel plans that involved leaving the house, so she cannot complain too much.
