I seem to often experience lots of belching and mild heartburn while driving. Or even just riding in the passenger seat. I can alleviate it by sipping water and eating saltines. Gavisgon pills help too.
My husband says that prone position is notorious for lots of upper GI upset. All I know is if I have my youngest daughter in the car, she says it's so gross to listen to. But sometimes I really feel sick from it. And you can't slouch down in your seat. LOL!
I always think I must kink something up in my GI tract.
Does anyone else experience this? Long car rides are a challenge. I usually have to wear sweats, pack the Gavisgon and a zip lock baggie of Club Crackers. And the trusty water bottle. As soon as the first belch starts, I sip and eat a cracker. It does seem to stop the burps. But sometimes they come one after another, like sneezes!
But if I stop the car and walk around, they stop.
Okay, am I crazy or is this a rather normal thing with IBS patients or patients who suffer from GERD?
Thanks.

Probably more GERD related than IBS. If you are belching then according to my Doctor it is most likely from swallowed air, carbonated beverages or sucking on candy or gum as foods normally cause intestinal gas.

Canyonbabe - thanks so much. Sometimes this does happen after a meal. So it was something that I ate or drank. Interesting. I should time my meals before car rides better.

Well, I have told this story before but when I lived in WA state in the dairy area, they would load the cows in the trucks when they got bloated and drive them around to get rid of the gas. I imagine they did a lot of twisting and turning. The Vet told me to do this with my dog when he was getting bloating from drinking water too fast but I never did cause he would just lie down and go to sleep so if you can walk around a little it might help before you take off in the car.

Canyonbabe - I love that cow story. Each time you tell it, I just crack up........you could probably rent a U-haul truck and drive many of us around, from time to time. What fun we'd all have.......LOL!!! If I were really witty I'd think of a perfect joke right about
now....but I've got nothin'.....
Thanks again for the cow image!!!
Next time I'm belching like crazy in the car, I'll just moo for a while. That should help - LOL!
