Any comments, feedback, ideas, etc.
For now going on years, my wife has suffered from chronic burping. All day long. My recollection it started with excess gas production as the bloating caused internal disruption of normal organ/skeletal structure and resulting pain (like when you brief feel internal pain but ultimately the gas finds it's way out). This is still a problem and the burping became chronic. I've clocked it: about once every 40 seconds on average. She ultimately settles down during sleep but that's it. However, getting comfortable enough for sleep is a nightly ritual and even at that not always successful due to the pain of the bloating.
There is very little carb in her diet. Dairy is virtually non-existent, no coffee, only herbal non caffeinated tea. Except for curbing carbs, the rest was of her liking any way. Traditional medicine has been a total failure. I suspect low motility causing bad bacteria buildup (I am deficient on technical terms). She's been through 2 rounds of purging the bacteria, it helped for about a day and then all is "normal" again, i.e. she suffers. She curbed sugar and anything starch for a long period of time (months) but no abatement what so ever. She will now occasionally enjoy a bit of candy and has returned to having a bit of corn as a vegetable in our normal dinner diet (we stopped eating corn altogether for some time). Her morning breakfast is usually some kind of fruit and bacon. We were somewhat on the Adkins diet only coincidentally while exploring (with the input of the web) how to modify our diet to address what may be at the root of the problem, i.e. food intolerances. Paleo seemed like it should be a good way to go and for a while she lost a lot of weight while trying to stay paleo (and no sugar, no carbs at all, etc). Some weight has come back as some things we cut out are now enjoyed occasionally through capitulation of a dietary discipline that provided no positive results (other than the weight modification). Carries a bit of weight but is not obese.
As it relates to most of the coincidental symptoms I see most of you suffering from in the thread, the commonality seems to be only the excessive, chronic burping and, for some, the never ending production of gas. The swallowing of air, etc, frankly, we can't figure that out. How do you know? How do you stop? etc. Heartburn is not an issue. We don't see how GERD can be a factor. IBS doesn't seem to be the issue either. There were bouts of the cycle between diarrhea and constipation but some of the solutions she has discovered have alleviated this as a problem, yet still with the gas and belching.
Any thoughts and recommendations will be helpful. Any who need to know what all she has done to address this, please ask you questions and I'll put it to her to let me know about this and that. Frankly, we've done so much to address this that I've simply lost track of most things, settling into an acceptance of her suffering. But then here I am, starting the fight again.
