Hello everyone...this is a simple question for others with IBS-C..I have this friend of mine who also has IBS-C and we were comparing issues and we discovered that for the both of us, ever so often, our IBS-C goes away...we will have a perfectly normal bowel movement in every way..It's our brain telling us to go to into the bathroom, not our body...it seems like the brain-gut connection is working! then it stops, and back to IBS-C..
when this happens it's not because I've taken anything or been doing anything else... I just go into the bathroom, sit down and go, no straining,,, just sit down,, think "go" and voila! a completely normal movement...
does anyone else experience this? when it happens to me I want to call my doctor and have her run every test possible to see if we can be able to re-enact whatever it is so the mind gut connection stays

I have this female friend of mine, I bring that up because a large majority of people with IBS are women. I think 8 out of 10, anyway..we both experience that reconnection..it is very, very seldom.. when my brain gut reconnects, its my brain telling me to go into the bathroom, not my body. The thing is, if the doctors could find out what happens when that re-connection occurs, maybe we could control IBS. Zelnorm came close to doing it... I keep hearing from others who would give anything for a package of zelnorm

I went with my daughter to a bar last night and they say alcohol is bad for IBS but I drank some beer and I had my first small but hopeful BM this morning, and not feeling sick at all today. Then we went to a Birthday party and I ate some chips and dipped them in Ranch, which is not good for me because I cant have dairy, so now I have a tummy ache, but I did this one to myself, plus the chips were greasy and I cant have them either...oops. just have to live once in awhile ya know? I think I am going to call my GI doc tomorrow and see if he will put me on some Zelnorm, hope that you are having a good evening....Leslie

I am not sure what you mean. I mean I suffer from IBS_C and I wish I could tell my body to go. I mean there are times that I am so bloated that I will say out loud I have to go to the bathroom today and eventually alittle while later I do go. But this is what I do notice. When I am stressed especially in the morning: getting kids ready, cleaning up, making sure thngs are right, worrying about
deadlines etc...I wont have the urge to go. Its when the kids are at school, the house is clean and I am not being rushed, kinda like when the body gets calmer thenI go. So in a way that is a brain-gut connection. My brain is calm therefore, my stomach cooperates and bm. Stress = Constiopation= Pain Pain= Gas and the whole viscious cycle starts again. Quiet is Definitely better for your digestive tract.
