I just had a colonoscopy earlier this week. I was put to sleep by Diprivan which my doctor and anesthesiologist told me was perfectly save when used properly.
As soon as I woke up in the recovery room, I was in extreme pain with trapped gas and bloating. The nurse kept yelling at me to do this or that to get rid of the gas, and I couldn't even move my body, let alone let gas escape. No one can force themselves to do that when they can't!
Well my gastro doc was scared and immediately sent me by ambulance to the nearest ER in a hospital. I was ordered to have a CT scan of my abdomen (which I had just had 2 weeks ago). The nurses all told me the doctor wanted to check for any perforations he might have caused. Thank goodness I didn't have any and I was released, only to return after a quick bite to eat, with severe pain in my left shoulder, left side, etc. and the ER doc told me it was all from gas but he gave me a shot into the shoulder and a script for Naproxen. Now I have to make an appt. to go back to the gastro doc., and I have a million questions.............he told me the reason for what happened is the fact that I have a "slow" colon, but I don't necessarily believe that is the true answer. Now I am suspicious about returning to this new gastroenterologist ever again, but I will have an appt. this week to go over everything.
Has anyone had such a problem, or know anything about this type of problem? Thank goodness the results of my colonoscopy were fine as per the doctor. I'd appreciate any info, thoughts or knowledge on this matter. Thanks!!
