Hi Honestwoman.
I am in simmilar circumstance. I have post infectious IBS , have since sept 2009 after a spree of Reccurent C Diff Infections from Aprill to september.... Nothing seems to work except Tridural (that is the canadian name for it) Very good for Ibs pain.
Unfortunately for me it causes sweating and hot flashes. I had to be put back on codine .
If Anyone has any suggestions that might help I am open too them. I have tried the whole enchelada. Fibre makes it worse and gassy , it flips back and forth from Diarriaha to Constipation, Constant 24 hour pain. Right now there is no diareah but there is constant pain. I find that if I used a heating blanket on my abdomen it lessens alot , but is still constant.
I am seeing a naturopath tomorrow. Some claim Iberogahst works for them , it makes me sick because I am allergic to something in it. Probiotics are really not helpfull at this point I find they make the gut pain magnify. VSL-3, etc etc , all winds up being rather expensive and more of a frustration than a help.
I recently was put on over 2000 mg's of Vitamin d and I find my energy level is comming back but the gut pain won't leave. This was done because over 90% of the general public does not get the amounts of vitamin d they should during the winter and fall months due to lack of sun exposure.
The emotional turbulance seems to magnigfy it and gets worse as we go forward. I cant do the things I love to do as the pain is too intense and the drugs are not permitting me too, I am feeling distanced from friends and relatives , I don't have very many days in a month where I can get things done so when I do I try to get as much as possible done. I worry about my relationship, we have been good for 8 years but when one of you is sick all the time it takes it's toll on you and the other person.
I am exploring Accupuncture and a few other things if I find anything out I will let you know . Diecetol is garbage, as is Buscopam.
Apparently 2 drugs that were used for the treatment of IBS were recently removed from the market as they were killing people. ( Not sure what they were ) I recently had to be put on Celexa for IBS as the sections of the gut involved are also ceretonin receptor areas and that is causing some of the depression I experience.
