need help...

Hello, I have had a dull pain on the left side of the abdomen for 2 months now,I am checking my poop everytime I go and Im seeing small dots of red on the poop itself not a lot but Im wondering if this could be blood..How can you realy tell?? I have had a ct scan done three weeks ago dr said it was fine...Please any help with this would be great..Thank you so much..

Left sided pain is not usually UC! There are lots of causes of which UC or ulcerative colitis maybe one. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you as this may give some pointers? The most common reason for left sided bowel pain is ibs, but if there is blood mixed in the stool then this needs investigating further as this wouldn't be the cause. The CT is reassuring though, but if you want to tell if this is blood that you are passing then you need to do a fecal occult blood test or have a stool sample sent to the lab.
