Hi, I'm looking for info on others who have had a TAC w/Ileo. What to expect afterwards? Healing time? Problems? etc...
To make a long story short I was in an accident in 2003 hit by a drunk driver. Beginning in 2004 I've had 2 spinal fusions(lower back & neck), 2 bladder lifts, 2 partial hysterectomies, foot & hand surgeries. My most recent surgey was on May 5th when I had a mass removed from my right ovary which had adhered to my sigmoid colon and other areas. They did an exploratory laparotomy at that time and ruled out cancer. I have had bowel trouble for several years now and the mass was found during a CT of my entire trunk after having a endoscopy, colonoscopy, barium enema, nuclear swallow, ultrasound and xrays. After 3 opinions it is believed I have sleepy bowel sydrome possibly from 11 surgeries or spinal nerve damage. I have Fibromyalgia and have started pain management in the last 6 months after dealing with the chronic pain for 7 years. I can go for up to a week with out having my bowels move and my stomache swells to a frightening size. I have cramps, nausea, vomitting, and unbelievable pain. I take prescription Amitiza 3 x a day, Miralax powder 4 x a day, & 3 stool softeners at bedtime. Anyway after the mass was removed May 5th I ended up in the Special Care Unit for 5 days because of nausea, vomiting, fever, very low pulse ox, high sugar, high blood pressure,etc.. I had a Nasal Gastric tube placed after vomitting for hours on end. That was the most painful and worst experience of my life!!! My total abdominal colectomy is scheduled for July 12th and I've been told my the surgeon I will have a NG tube again. I will be hospitalized for a week minimum. I will have approximately a foot left of intestine connected from the end of the stomache to the rectum. I will not have a colostomy bag or so they tell me. I am a 42 year old female who is now 62 pounds overweight. Will I spend the rest of my life on the toilet? Will I lose weight? Will I be sick all of the time? Or will this help me? I'm very nervous and afraid about having this surgery. Anyone who can give me tips or advice or share their own story with me would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!
