Gallbladder and the Nauseous Sneeze

I've just started experiencing this issue! Sudden onset of severe nausea followed by sneezing.I am a firefighter/paramedic so I was leaning towards heart trouble or the vagus nerve. Saw these posts and am now wondering if it isn't gall bladder related. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis so I have an underactive thyroid. I take meds in the morning on an empty stomach but lately I've been getting nausea on the way to work. I've had to pull over to vomit a couple times. Then a sudden sneeze and it goes away. So odd.

Not sure if this is going to help any of us but. I read a post about this being the possible cause. I too have this condition. I am thankful the sneezing gets rid of it or we would suffer something severe.

Just found this thread through Google. I have been getting the nauseous sneeze for about 2 years now. Big difference is, in comparison to other posts here, I don't get it randomly. Usually, only when I'm already nauseated, for example when I have a hangover or am motion sick, etc. The nausea increases a bit/makes me wanna throw up, sometimes I cough, then the sneeze, which seems to relieve me from my nausea in general for a while, before it comes back a bit later. I never really thought it might be something negative, since it seemed to help me be less sick.
I'm 23, have IBS, scoliosis, eat healthy, move lots, but smoke and drink a bit too often. No issues with my gallbladder, as far as I know, but am very prone to throwing up. As a kid, even sleeping too little could send me into a fit of puking.
I do notice lots of people here mentioning low blood sugar (or having it before breakfast). Maybe that's where my throwing up correlates?

It's silent reflux. 👌 I've done tons of research on this. I don't have any of the issues any of you have, but I have silent reflux. You won't know you have it unless you look into the symptoms bc you don't get acid coming up into your mouth like normal reflux, it only goes up and down your esophagus causing damage. Untreated it turns into Barrett's Esophagus, and causes dysphagia. The nausea followed by sneezing is coming from a vagal issue due to damage from the reflux.
My only advice would be to get an endoscopy. 🤷

It's so nice to see other people going through the same thing, I mean, sorry, it sucks, but, yea. I'm 36 had my gall bladder removed in 95, real bad acid reflux after my last pregnancy in 07. I can tell the difference between the need to to really vomit and this torture before a flippin SNEEZE! I too read about the ¿Vagas? thing that connect the gastrointestinal and the nose and when it's irritated it causes this. I guess there's not really much to do about it. Just nice to know this is one thing I can mark off my weird list. 😁

I have had this for about 40 years. I start feeling so sick, and once I sneeze, I feel fine. I don't have gastric issues that I know of and no gall bladder issues. I do not have the symptoms of silent reflux, except I have always had sinus swelling. I do not take any medications. I am 67, and guess I will have to keep living with this. Nice to know that others have experienced this, when I have mentioned to people, nobody can relate.

I have recently started experiencing this symptom. I have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF) and thought it was related to fluid retention; but that doesn't mesh with anyone else's experience or diagnosis. It is comforting to know others are having this symptom, but of course there is NO comfort in fact that no one has answers, further details or diagnosis. I'll keep watching thread and will post any additional information I obtain to help us with understanding & treatment.

How did you learn about your CHF/ get tested for it? Been having weird heart attack like symptoms recently and no doctor has any answers and say I'm too young. I also have this sneeze like thing, and the common denominator in this thread seems to be reflux or throat gland swelling + mucus. I've had it for about 3 years and before the sneeze I feel nauseous and like my stomach is getting hotter and some 'swelling?' behind my eyes and sometimes my muscles or body shake but not all the time and i'm also pretty thin so that could be causing the shakiness anyway. I'm almost positive this is due to reflux, I'm going to hopefully get LINX surgery soon to help my GERD so I'll update after that and let you know if I still get these attacks.

I guess I’m the odd one, I sneeze, then severe nausea begins! Today I took a small drink of water and that seemed to help. This only happens once in a while, not every time I sneeze.

My nausea started when I wore braces and thought it was the latex in the elastic bands. Not the case.

I get the nausea feeling daily and can be from being too warm, too much exertion, hunger or drinking tea. Thought it was my diet and recently had a duodenal ulcer (no sign of reflux or ulcer until the blood in the stool). Had a gastroscopy which said the ulcer was healing and taking a PPI for the reflux. Interesting to read about silent reflux - must’ve been what happened to me to cause a weeping ulcer.

The retching or sneezing releases the nausea right away. Also, I find if I release any pressure along my stomach (eg: underwear) and pull any clothing off my waist line, I helps immediately too.

Glad to know I am not the only person this happens to. In my 60s, no acid reflux problems. Still have gall bladder. Sudden onset of intense nausea with sensation of need to vomit. about 10-20 seconds later I sneeze - usually twice. I have learned to calm down and wait for the sneeze which completely eliminates the nausea. Doctors think I'm nuts, but sure would like to know the cause!

hello everyone! i know it’s been a few years since the first post and replies, but there still isn’t much out there about our strange phenomenon! i’m 20 years old and also experience this unique sneeze. as someone said earlier, it has a concise yet very specific description. intense nausea out of nowhere, resolved with a sudden sneeze within seconds. although they’re just sneeze spells, each only being a few seconds long, i feel that this is too unique and specific to be overlooked. you know that feeling you get when a sneeze is coming; it doesn’t last long but you often have time to prepare with that initial inhale before going to the crook of your arm. when it comes to our shared episodes, the nausea occurs almost in replacement of that warning sneeze feeling. super weird! i am so intrigued by this occurrence and tend to only experience it when i first wake up after a night of drinking. i hope to find out the reason for this someday.

Oh my gosh. I FINALLY found any information at all about this weird condition.

Same as the rest, sudden onset of extreme nausea (I still don’t associate it with a sneeze- the doom of a rotavirus sets in) then a “machine gun” sneeze. I have several in quick succession, sometimes four or so, each starting before the previous was even completed, followed by not only physical but mental relief- not a rotavirus!

In addition to this, I have daily sneezing fits as a result of swallowed air. Drinking something too quickly or following taking vitamins, stuff like that. I have an urge to sneeze and will do so until this air is dislodged and I have a small expulsion of air through my mouth. It’s not really a burp to me, as getting this air out requires significant effort compared to the average belch.

I will often be doing side bends, twists, forward and back bends, weird slow motion belly dancing moves… this may take several minutes. All the while I’m stopping to sneeze. Sometimes the sneezes are so frequent that I have to pause the stretching until I get a break.

My husband can confirm that I’ve had sneezing fits that last for twenty five or more sneezes. There is little to no nausea with these episodes.

Having been unable to find any information about this phenomenon and yeah- the arrogant doctor response to a crazy person- I formulated my own theory. The swallowed air must have put pressure on my diaphragm and my body misinterpreted the unpleasantness. Kind of like a “wandering itch” (when your leg itches but when you scratch it, the itchy sensation is still there and it ends up being the back of your hip, for instance) but for your stomach and diaphragm.

It’s jus so flipping cool that I’m NOT crazy.
