Hi, I have been very constipated for 3-4 weeks now. Really backed up.

My Doctor says that Miralax is the medication they used to give in ERs and told me to get started on it.

I have been using it now for two days and nothing new is happening. How long should I wait before freaking out and heading to the ER?

When it does start working, what can I expect? Massive evacuation? Slow moving BM? Constant bathroom watch?

Would appreciate any info?

Whenever I have used Miralax at the recommended dosage, it has produced a BM the next day. Are you drinking lots of water when you take it? That's importanbt. Also, how much are you taking?

Can't predict what size or quality of BM you will have. It depends on how constipated you are.

i have no experience with fiber supplements but i have been really constipated for 5 days so i ate fiber one cereal, drank a lot of water and ate prunes. It took a couple of hours to kick in and it was just a normal soft bowel, no diarrhea.

If the miralax doesnt work, i highly suggest to try do it the natural way. Its better too becuase once you start taking supplements for a long period of time, you bowel will become lazy and will depend on the supplement to evacuate.

I stand to be wrong but I think Miralax is the same as Movicol in Australia....is it an osmotic laxative...that is, it draws water from the bowel.
I found it had no effect and I had to take a rather large dose and then it began to work, slowly slowly, but it worked...I take it just about every day.
Try taking it four times a day and cetainly on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.

Yes Miralax is a laxative, not a fiber.

You might call a pharmacist, because they can help with questions like yours.

also if it doesn't work I would tell the doctor that
