hello all :)

i've had IBS symptoms for a couple years now, and just recently been told that i do have IBS on one of my many visits to the doctors. i'm 20 years old and a full time student. for the past 5/6 months the symptoms have become so much worse. i'm experiencing none-stop vomitting and horrible pain (in the lower rib cage area on the right hand side mainly). it can occur anytime of the day but usually happens during the night/early mroning. i'm getting so down and stressed because i'm missing days of University and its effecting my grades. my doctor gave me medication to take when the pain happens but i just end up throwing it back up. i also suffer from frequant bouts of cystitis, i dont know if this is linked in with it or not..?

i'm wondering if its something more serious than IBS as i have never had pain like this before. or is this all normal for IBS sufferers? is it worth booking another appointment at the doctors?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I can all too well relate. Let me first tell you not to settle for an ibs diagnosis PLEASE! Doctors tell any and all patients that they have ibs whenever they don't know what's wrong wiith them. If you are experiencing pain on your right side along with nauseousness you may very well have a disfunctional gallbladder. Do you have any diarrhea??? If so, please look up HABBA SNYDROME....IT VERY WELL MIGHT GIVE YOU YOUR LIFE BACK (believe me, I too as diagnosed with IBS but turned out I had habba snydrom.)

Have you had any tests done prior to your IBS diagnosis? You should demand an endoscopy, ultrasound for gallbladder at the minnimum. If you're experiencing diarrhea and/or constipation a colonoscopy should be done as well. FYI, if its your gallbladder an ultrasound often will not show anything wrong. You would need an ultrasound with Hidascan and cck injection....most doctors will reuse to perform this test due to its expensive cost. In my case I had to fly out to new jersey and pay out of my pocket to see dr habba himself. Dr habba discovered that many ibs patients were having exact same symtpoms as people with no or. Dysfunctioning gallblader. Google HABBA SNYDROME and see if you fit the description. The great news is there's medication to treat it and within days you will have your life back! I suffered needlessly for a year and a half to and am now happpy to have my life back thanks to Dr Habba!

Is very wrong and bad advise. That is not how they diagnose IBS. IBS is a distinct clinical entity with a specific cluster of symptoms. Using the right criteria for the diagnoses and a good doctor the diagnoses is 98% secure.


There are symptoms that seperate Habba syndrome from IBS. Dr Hubba has a preliminary study, but there are many things wrong with that study at the moment. So its important to be careful what you say to IBSers in regards to all this, and his personal take on IBS. Like IBS d doesn't exist. You'll see as this come out more in the future. It has been out for a couple years now at least.

thanks so much for the replies! :)

i've researched into Habba syndrome & gallbladder disfunction etc, and it seems very very likely that there is something wrong in that area (i fit all of the symptoms of having gallstones..). i'm going to go to the doctors and explain i think it's more than IBS, and ask for some tests. hopefully will get this sorted soon as possble!!

"none-stop vomitting" is a red flag for IBS.

IBS can cause mild discomfort to extreme pain.

Have you had blood work done?

Many people don't fully understand how they actually diagnose IBS.

I agree they should be checking into your symptoms.

Was it a gi or primary care doctor that diagnosed you with IBS.

Do you get relief sometimes with a bowel movement?

Do you get incomplete evacuation?

There are symptoms IBS can cause Hubba cannot and vice versa.


First off

Pain or discomfort is a MUST for an IBS diagnoses.
