Anyone taking Cholestyramine Powder for diarrhea?

I had a colonoscopy in Feb. 2011, the findings were "aphthae in the terminal ileum" the doctors said it was ulcers.  There were 3 biopsy's taken during that, all came back normal.  I then had bloodwork and a small bowel series done, the one where you drink barium and have xrays taken every 20 minutes, both of those came back normal.  I went to my doctor today and he said that besides the ulcers in my colon everything was normal so he didnt want to treat me for crohns disease.  I am going to the hospital tomorrow for more bloodwork and also a BM culture.  My doctor gave me a perscription for Cholestyramine Powder you mix with water or orange juice for the diarrhea since it is still controlling my life.  I was just wondering if anyone else has taken this powder to treat diarrhea and if it worked.

You had ulcers in your terminal ileum and he said that was "normal"? C'mon... Ulcers in the TI are not normal. Have you seen the pathology report of the biopsies? If not, get it. The reason I say that, is that I had ulcers in my TI and the GI said very much the same to me. I got a copy of the report and it was anything but normal.

There are other reasons people get ulcers in the TI. Had you been taking alot of NSAIDs [motrin, aleve, naproxin, etc] prior to your colonoscopy? Some people develop TI ulcers as a result of NSAID usage.

To your original question ~~ I was prescribed Cholestyramine Powder at one point for my cholesterol problem. It did cause my diarrhea to lessen. Also, besides being prescribed for those with their gall bladders removed, quite a few people with Crohn's use it for diarrhea control.

How high up were the ulcers? Did they say anything about 'solitary rectal ulcer syndrome'?
This is a condition where one or more ulcers appear but there is no histology on the biopsies. Just a thought.
Do they not think you have any form of inflammatory bowel disease??
