Anyone use this prep for a colon?

I am going to have a colonostopy on Thurs, the gastro gave me a script for Moviprep any one ever use it. I read you mix it with water and it makes 2 liters, you drink one liter the day before surgery and the other the morning of the colon. sure does not sound right to me.

Any feedback, I never heard of this but I guess it can't be any worse thsn go-litely, at least I hope not

I think all colonoscopy preps are very similar. I have picolax for mine and have 2 sachets to drink over 2 days. Pretty revolting stuff but I think all of them do the same thing!
The instructions on mine was to drink one the day before at 4pm and the next on the morning of the procedure so it's probably standard practice.
If you are concerned, contact your doctor and ask for advice.

Thanks, I am not really concerned just surprised that you would do half the day of the procedure. this will be my 5 th colon and I have yet to say any of the prep tasted good, yuck. the prep is the worse part.

Hi Linda. I have had 3 of these and your so right, the preps are horrible. My first 2 were GoLytely (liars!) and my last one about a month ago was the movie prep. WAY better! Mix it the night before so it is cold cold cold. It doesn't taste as bad as the others and it's not as much to drink of it, thank goodness. I am always constipated and have to start the preps 3-4 hours sooner than the instructions say to. Other wise, it will be a no go for me. (No pun intended). Just remember to mix it early so it's cold. Hope this helps, good luck!

What time is your colonoscopy at on the Thursday?  I have had many colonoscopies and I avoid doing any prep that day for fear of not being emptied out on time.  Since I have to travel one hour to get to the hospital.

I've always started mine the day before usually around 1pm, but I was also given laxatives as well as pictolax(much better only 2 small packages) highly recommend this one over moviprep.  The last time I did mine for some reason the prep didn't kick in until about 10pm at night and by then I was ready for bed and totally exhausted, only to have to run to the toilet for the next couple of hours.

Once its clear running out of you then your done-no need to take more, I find it just irritates my insides.

Yes, I've done it too many times as well...In fact, I have to do another prep but its for ileostomy surgery in 10 days. Good luck to y'all.

I got my moviprep and the instructions are not clear at all. It says about mixing the 2 packets and start taking after the last meal of the day and than clear soup or yougart only no solid food until after the procedure.. When I did the other preps you were not allowed any food except for jello and broth the day before. What time do you start this crap and how long should it take to drink it? What about the other half ,the day of the colon, doesn't this stuff give you "D". The hospital will call this week with the time. It says to drink lots of liquids but does not say what.

My husband read the instructions and so did my neighbor and none of us are sure about eating solid food the day before the procedure.

My pre is a different kind I still have to mix in into a jug of water and drink half day one the the balance day 2 and they said no eating but because I;m a diabetic they said I can have an ensure and glucose tab if needed.

Hi Linda maybe this link will help. http://www.salix.com/products/moviprep/index.aspx   I would def NOT eat anything but clear liquids the day before (maybe even 2 days before). Yes it will give you D, that's why I start mine earlier than it says to.

Hello, I am new here and did a prep earlier. I did this before and I was drink it all the night before. This time I did 2 Dulcolax at 2:00 p.m. and then started drinking the Halflitely at 6:00 p.m. Since my colonoscopy is at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow I am to drink half tonight and half tomorrow 2 hours before the procedure. I am having a hard time getting all of this down. I get very nausious and then the cramps are unreal. As soon as I get clear yellow I can stop drinking (last time was about at 80& of the liquid). I am allowed clear liquids until the rest of the prep tomorrow. Not sure I will do much then this and just to mostly stay hydrated. When I need to do this again I want to discuss a lesser amount to drink or even some sort of pill over the liquid. I am even prepared to change doctors is need be. I had to come off blood thinners to do this so it's a one shot deal so I do not develope a clot. It makes no sense to make patients go through this if there is something easier.

I called my Drs. office, I opened the moviprep box and the instructions are either to do both parts one day or half one day and half the next. The secretary said do the one part the day before and the 2 nd part the day of the colon, 4 hours prior. I am to be at the hospital by 7 am, that means i would have to do the prep again at 3 am, any one do the entire prep in one day when they were told to do it in two. The golitely and everything else I took I only did one one day.I am ready to just cancel the enrtire thing.

I always do the whole prep in one day, thats crazy that she told you to break it up into 2 days.  But then shes not the one that has to get up and start gagging on the stuff.

If your scope is at 7am,  then the day before I would eat a very light breakfast and start around noon.  THis way you can get your two parts in if needed and still be in bed at a half decent time without still running to the toilet.

Once you start running clear you should be done drinking and just drink water after that.  Just make sure you don't drink any liquids that have red dye in it like gatorade.

I am going to do the prep all tomorrow, I guess the Dr. wants it in two parts but I am not getting up at 4 to do the 2 nd part. if I am cleaned out and don't eat how can I have anything left

The prep gives you the two options, one day or two but it says the 2 nd day one hour before the colon. Seems pharmacies are trouble getting the go-litely. Will let you know how I make out.

The nurse called from the hospital and told me to do the entire prep tonight, so that is what I am gong to do. I am schedulded for 11:30 tomorrow, sure wish it was earlier and wish it were over. Thanks for all the input.

That moviprep is the worse prep I have had and I used 3 different ones. I gagged the first taste and was so glad that that you gals told me about the ginger ale or I would never have gotten it down. I did the entire prep the night before not half the day of the colon and am glad I did because I was still going in the a m. the cramping pain was awful also.

But the good news was I only had one small polyp and that was the one that was starting 3 years ago and grew very little.
The good news is no colon for 5 years.
