Same pain in same place most of the time?

I've had IBS for many years. Recently, I developed a pain in my lower left side. It comes and goes, but stays around most of the time. I know I have some diverticula around that area and it does flare up more when I eat nuts, so I've been avoiding them.
I also have a fairly constant pain in my left upper quadrant, around where the colon turns to go downward.

Do any of you find that you have fairly consistent places that you have the same pain all the time?
I'm trying to put off going to the GI doc, because of all the tests he'll probably order.
My labs are good and I had a colonoscopy about 5 years ago and it was clear, except for a few small diverticula.
Do any of you have trouble with those 2 big turns that the colon makes? I wonder if gas tends to collect there.

Its amazing how many things can be going wrong, while our labs are still normal!

There is a difference between Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis. Diverticulosis is having the small pockets that are not infected and Diverticulitis is when it does become infected. I have two pockets myself, one on the left and one on the right. I was hospitalized in December with extreme pain, primarily on my right. I went on a liquid diet for 3 days along with lots of IV fluids and I was able to come home - at that time I did not know I had Diverticulosis. A few months later I had a routine colonoscopy and that is when it was discovered. So I believe that I did have Diverticulitis. And if that is any indication of what others suffer when it gets infected, then I am pretty sure you would know if it is Diverticulitis. However with Diverticulosis, you can have that sort of pain that is constant and that is called Painful Diverticular disease. Normally, supposedly, Diverticulosis does not cause pain. But I can definitely feel mine and at times it can be pretty constant.

If the pain gets worse, you feel nauseous or start running a fever it would be wise to head to the ER. And if this is something new for you, then you should call your doctor to be on the safe side.

Btw, I do not have localized pain when my IBS acts up. More like an all over type pain - cramping.

Kathy whenever diarrhea hits me, the cramping pain is always on my lower left side.  I also have the almost constant pain in my upper left quad and you're right that is just where the transverse colon turns to the decending colon.  I just had a colonoscopy and results showed NO abnormalities. So the gastros keep telling me it's "only" IBS grrrrr.

I was diagnosed with IBS in January after several months of this same gnawing pain on my left side...under lower left ribs down to the inside of my left hip. sometimes its not up in the ribs and only on the inside of the hip. Other times it feels like there is a tendon or muscle that is pulling in both directions. It really feels like it's in the bends of the colon. Mine disappeared completely for three months, but decided to return about 6 weeks ago.

I see a chiropractor who believes my left hip that is going out of alignment and therefore pulling on my muscles....zigzagging up my spine making my ribs spasm......I do get some relief from my visits, but not completely.

My stools have been normal for a few months now and don't seem to be a problem. I just wander if what CathyA said is true...maybe our bowels are just so sensitive to whats going on with us that it causes pain.

I haven't had a colonoscopy, but all blood work and stool samples come back normal. (had those re-ran just 6 weeks ago) but they The GI doc didn't think I needed a colonscopy at the time I saw her, but said that I might need one in the future. Well, now I am thinking I should have just done it....because now, I have no insurance....I know my diet is all over the place right now. I am in a middle ground here....I also have Meniere's syndrome and I also have to follow a strict diet with that....I almost dont know what to eat anymore.

So now I am rambling. Just thought I would let you know that you're not alone in your aches and pains.
