Hi, I have been on a really strict healthy diet for the last five months (under supervison and due to other health concerns), the diet has been mostly seeds, nuts, chicken, fish, veg and rice. I broke the diet fairly badly last week for 2 days, ate loads and after taking it very easy for a day, went back on to my approved diet.
As this week has gone on, I have had increasing heartburn, acid reflux and severe abdomenal bloating. I went to my doctor yesterday, told him everything. He examined me and said my stomach was fine but that my gut was extremely noisy. He asked me to wait another few days with it but that if it isnt going, to go back to him. He is hoping that the food fest followed by my healthy diet have caused a lot of trapped wind and gas and that it will go away in another few days.
I am really scared that I have done something bad to myself, both with this stupid diet Ive been on and the fact that I went on a 2 day food fest, the symtoms onlly started after that, I have to stress that as nothing like this ever happened over the previous months, even when I had a few slips before. But looking back, I always had slight problems digesting the new foods like the seeds and nuts, my previous old diet had been very easy on the digestion but too full of sugar and carbs.
The heartburn and acid reflux have gone (I am eating toast, chicken, a bit of ice cream and soup) but the bloating is freaking me out, I have never experience anything like it. My whole abdomen is distended. I dont know if it is coming from my stomach or my gut but when my doctor pressed down on both (and used a stethscope), he was convinced it was coming from my lower abdomen, hence my gut.
I cant figure out if my symtoms fit gastritis, colitis or ibs. I dont have diahorea, nausea or bloody stools. But I dont have an appetite. The doctor even mentioned PCOS because i havent had a period for 5 months (am off the pill and still waiting for it) and said any swelling of the abdomen is serious and to get medical attention if its not
Can anyoone advise here on if I may actually have IBS that has reared its head because of the diet I was on? I am going to go to a gastro consultant next week, saw him before for an endoscopy and I guess he would be best to see.
