I have a redundant colon, and although not diagnosed I have had symptoms for many years of IBS. The last year or so things have gotten much worse, going completely to constipation. A few months ago I was really getting worried after 9 days with no BM whatsoever. I was beginning to think I would need to see a doctor, possible surgery, but yet didn't feel that I would get much of an answer from a doctor either. So, trial and error. I resorted to laxatives, (not that I hadn't used them before), eating more fiber, fiber supplements, you name it. Finally I tried Miralax and thought it was going to be the answer - for a few days. Now, I seem to have hit upon what works for me. I started researching colon massage, I do this every night before bed. Also, I am grinding flax seed and adding a tablespoon to yogurt, oatmeal etc., and I also have started eating a few prunes straight from the bag. I make sure I have enough water, but I have always drank lots of water in the past. Apparently, this regimen works for me. Every morning around 10 a.m. I go to the bathroom - just like a normal person! I am so thrilled - you wouldn't think that just having a normal BM would be so thrilling, but then again if you are on this forum and suffer from IBS-C then you probably do understand! Just wanted to share that. It has worked for me and I hope it will help you too. I feel the colon massage is key, but probably the combo of the massage, flax seed, prunes and water. At least I am not having to take a laxative!
