Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and I'm thrilled to have found it. IBS seems to be one of the great modern mysteries and it is so lovely to speak with a bunch of people who don't scew up their faces in confusion (at least not that I can see!) when I mention my disease.
On topic, I've had IBS for about 2 years now. It seems to have been brought on by a severely painful gastro virus. Since then, I've struggled with the usual diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal cramps, queasiness (usually around BMs), occasional dizziness and anxiety. I've had quite a few tests and my Gastroenterologist said it's most likely IBS.
However, in the past few weeks I've started experiencing serious nausea. I'm not sure what started it initially, but it commences every day about an hour after I eat breakfast and continues until I fall asleep.
It is an unusual nausea in that it feels almost like I am hungry. The best analogy I can come up with is, it's like when you have gone to the gym straight after work and haven't eaten since lunch. You know your breath smells, so you chew some strong peppermint gum and hop on the excercise bike anyway... then that churning, hot/cold/pepperminty sensation begins and you can feel your stomach turning in on itself and the contents creeping up your throat. It's kind of like you need to burp, but there's nothing there.
I find eating helps the nausea, but it commences again immediately afterwards. Because I feel so yucky, I'm drawn to starchy, plain foods like bread and crackers. I've gained so much weight lately I need to buy new clothes! So embarrassing and goodness only knows what my boyfriend thinks...
I got so fed up with all the cramps and diarrhoa I had to renegotiate my role at work, which was bad enough, but for the last 2 weeks I've been too sick to even attend. I'm pretty scared I won't ever be able to work again at all if this continues!
My Dr doesn't seem to know what to do and I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this or had any suggestions?
Also, I just needed to have a whinge.
