I found myself in this IBS situation due to a colon resection (missing 90% of my sigmoid, 15 inches above that point, due to cancer). My symptoms pretty much line up with IBS, those experiencing D or multiple bm's per day. Been at this for 12+ years. Initially I ate 12 hours on, 12 off, to give my insides a chance to calm down from all the bm activity. In my case, it helped me to sleep at night and give my insides a rest from all the stool activity. But it's not a cure, just a rest period to quiet my gut down. I did this faithfully for 2 straight years, slept great, hardly ever dreamed, I managed to get very restful sleep back then but over time I'd push back my cut off time to stop solids and I know I'd feel better if I went back to my old schedule, stopping all solids at 7 pm (but still consuming water until bedtime). I'd resume eating at 7 am. It was a great schedule but as with anything, you get lazy and tweak it. Now it's over 10 years later since I was so diligent about this no solid intake past 7 pm, I should really get back to it. I felt much better when I gave my GI a break. I just made sure I received my daily calorie intake in 12 hours.
