Hi there...I usually post on the fibro forum but have a question about
IBS that concerns my son. Three weeks ago, he went to a yoga class with his wife...it sounded strange to me because they do this in kind of a sweat lodge setting where the temperature is 105 degrees. Yikes! Anyway, when he got home, he had 'explosive diarrhea'. He went ten times that afternoon and it has continued ever since. He claims he 'goes' at least that many times a day...but does not wake up in the night with it. Two weeks ago he had blood tests done including a CBC and a metabolic panel...lipids, electrolytes etc. And two different stool samples that looked for infection, blood and parasites. All came back negative. Furthermore, he has no other symptoms that would point to Chrons, celiac or colitus...no symptoms at all except some stomach rumbling. He says he gets the urge to 'go' the minute he swallows that first bite of food.
The doctor is now leaning towards IBS as my son his highly stressed at the moment...is working 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. But my son is not convinced as this came on so suddenly and is unrelenting. He has been given two different IBS drugs...one begins with an 'L' and it did nothing. He started the new one yesterday so we don't know if it works yet.
My question (and my son's) is would IBS come on so quickly and violently? Is the diarrhea that constant?? His stool now is more 'muddy' rather than water and is loaded with mucus and looks like an oily slime. (sorry...I know that's totally gross). He is getting more and more worried that they are missing something and that only makes his condition worse.
Thanks for your help!
