Alternative to Colonoscopy

Does anyone know of an alternative to having a Colonoscopy? I feel that I need to have something done and not sure what to do. I have IBS, GERD, Anemia and bleeding hemroids.

 The reason that I am asking is because I have attempted to have this done a couple times and was not able to finish the prep for it. I get VERY ill and it causes me to bleed heavily. Last time I did it I almost ended up in the emergency room due to the amount of blood I lost.

  Was just wondering if anyone else has the same issue and has tried something successful.

have you had a small bowel series or an abdominal CT, or abdominal MRI? These are procedures that can detect inflammation in the bowel. However, to get a real solid diagnosis most DRs will want to biopsy the inflamed tissue, which means a scope.

You should talk to your GI about alternative preps, or how much prep you REALLY need to do in order for him/her to do a good scope.

I have asked about those before, but have not found a doctor willing nor wanting to go that route. I live in a very rural area so my options are limited. The last successful trip was back in '05 and I was scoped top to bottom and had some polyps biopsied. Since then I have not been able to successfully finish the prep treatments. The procedure itself is no biggy, its just getting there.

What prep products have you tried? What was the first one that you managed to get down? There are several different types of products used. Also, when you said you almost landed in the ER due to bleeding - are you referring to bleeding from the bowels? If you are routinely bleeding with bowel movements then you really should have a scope. You could ask to have an NG tube placed into your stomach and the prep administered that way.

Off the top of my head I can not remember what the first prep was. I believe it was that ginger stuff. The one that made me the sickest was the Mobi Prep.
I dont have bleeding everytime, but when I run my tank empty or have to go potty to many times I have a tendancy to bleed. I have internal hemrroids that seem to be easy bleeders. But that is also the reason I want to get scoped to make sure there is nothing else going on up there. But this has been an issue for a few years now and have not noticed it getting worse and if anything it has improved some.
The NG tube does not sound pleasant...ewww.
