I wouldn't think you would get an elevated ESR with ibs. ESR indicates chronic inflammation.ibs isnt an inflammatory process. ESR isnt specific on the area of inflammation but it can indicate a need for more blood tests and other tests such as an endoscopy/colonoscopy that could pinpoint what's going on. It can also be raised if you have had a nasty infection lately..hope that helps..ps.. I have crohns disease and the only thing that has ever been wonky has been my ESR and even that wasn't horrible..But colonoscopy and cat scans have shown ulcers in the past.
