Post infectious IBS- please help!!

I suffered from an E.coli bacterial infection 3 years ago. Unfortunately I had the infection for quite a long time- 4 months!! Before it left my system. I then suffered from terrible stomach pain and Diahorrea. This occurred with virtually anything I ate! I lost a lot of weight and then asked for a colonoscopy at the doctors. They tested for coeliac disease and checked for colitis. They couldnt find much, only slight inflammation of my colon. The consultant said I had post infective IBS and said there wasn't much treatment for it. That I could have it for 5 years, 10 years maybe more!!! I was very depressed as was only eating white rice and steamed fish/chicken, couldn't keep anything else down. I tried taking various drugs given by dictor but none helped. I tried Aloe Vera juice as reccommended to me, but didnt help.Eventually someone suggested I see a Chinese herbalist, which I have been for several years, but it is extremely expensive!! It is getting to the point where I can't afford the treatment. Has anyone had a similar experience after e.coli and can anyone suggest anything else I can try to treat it? Do probiotics really help? If so which ones? I'm getting really depressed at the thought of suffering from this for what seems like forever! And it makes me so ill!! Has anyone recovered from it? It's really difficult as I am a teacher, which is a stressful job anyway but also hard to go to the toilet whenever I need to!! I'd be grateful for any help. Thank u!

Wow! You sound like a jet setter! Thank you do much again for your help. I feel like I've made a big step just finding someone to talk to about the problem who understands and has an idea of what to take. All my doctor did was give me immodium type drugs. They never mentioned any of these other things to help! I'm a bit worried that they won't give the me the injections and tablets. I'm in the middle of fertility treatment as well, so a bit stressful and not sure if these drugs will be safe to take whilst trying for a baby in case I get pregnant?? I will try my doctor and see what happens- its just that they haven't been much help so far!!! Which part of India are you in? I've always wanted to go there, but now feel cautious because of my stomach problems. I think I need to take up tai chi to relax!! Thank you so much. You are really helping me.
