Hi,I'm a new member. I've been reading the proctalgia fugax posts. I have had chronic rectal pain for almost 5 years.
It is pretty much constant. I've been considering it as coccydinia or tailbone pain. An x-ray shows a dislocation of the last two digits of the coccyx. There was no trauma or fall, the pain just began one day after working out at the gym.
I would guess that proctalgia is not a constant pain, just occasional? The symptoms are very similar, hard to pin down exactly what it is. One thing I know for sure........the pain is INTENSE! Burning, sharp, achy, mostly from severe muscle spasms in the upper rectal area. There are no treatments I've found that work, nor any meds, and I've tried EVERYTHING short of surgery to remove the coccyx. It is a kind of Hell condition. Sitting for even 15-30 mins is enough to trigger the pain, and once it starts, it's there for the rest of the day. Sleep helps, it is not there after a good nights sleep. Constipation aggravates it greatly as does anxiety and fear related to the pain.
Sitting in a hot bath works while IN the water, it returns soon after getting out. I would consider this condition as a real serious life threatening dis-ease, nothing casual about it. One can sink into a very dark, depressing state realizing there is NO known cure for this. It is a Game changer for sure, no more air travel or long drives, restaurants are out as are movies, too much sitting.
Anyone else here with this? I hope not!
thanks for being here
