I had to repost, you can tell I'm new, I forgot to add a subject. Sorry.

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and I am hoping that someone can help me with some information. I'm not sure I have IBS but have had Crohn's disese for over 30 years and many surgeries.

My question is, I would like to rule out any possible problem before my dr and I settle on it being IBS. I have decided that I would do anything to find out what is going on. So, could someone recommend a good clinic in the Buffalo area (of course it has to be the best) where I can go and have CT scans or whatever the people on this forum think would be the best tests for me to have. I've already gone to buffalo for MRI's and am still waiting for results.

Any assistance would greatly appreciated.

IBS is a diagnosis of elimination. It usually does not show up on any testing and is primarily food driven. IBS is a condition of irregular contractions of the large intestine. It *might* show up on a barium test but there is no guarantee. The best place to start from is with your GI. Why don't you want to bring this up with him or her? What symptoms are you having? Is your Crohn's in remission?

Hi Sherry,

I've had Crohn's for a long time and multiple resections. Generally I tend to inflame and then get blockages. I need to make sure that the symptoms that I am experiencing is not any of the above. The reason that I want more testing for "Crohn's" type problems is that prior to my last surgery I had a blockage that finally led to a fistula and none of the test showed any problems.

I don't know if I have IBS, I have not been diagnosed. Well acually the diagnosis is, that there is nothing wrong with me. I would like to be a bit more proactive this time and help my GI (it's Canada) by getting some testing done outside of the "system."

You can go to www.ratemds.com to find a specialist in your area. You can call around to find the dr that best fits your needs.

But I understand where you're coming from. Darned if you do and darned if you don't kind of thing.

Hi Sherry,

We in Canada can not pay out of pocket to have medical tests. The test has to be ordered by a dr. To get a second opinion you 1st have to get a 2nd dr. (wait months) and hope that he will oder a new test.

Also, the system in our province (Ontario) changed so that all the doctors in the province and all the hospitals have access to a patients file (good and bad.) So if a test at one hospital turns out to be considered negative all the doctors at every other hospital will probably think the same thing because they will be looking at the same report. It's very hard now to get a 2nd opinion by going to a new hospital and praying they do another test.

Sorry it seems so complicated but it is.

Oh...I was assuming you meant Buffalo, NY....or is there a Buffalo in Canada? I'm not familiar with the different areas of Canada. Hopefully someone for Canada will be able to come and help you out more...sorry lol

I'm hoping an American on this site can help me out. I want to go from Toronto to Buffalo to get my tests done, soon!
