When I was first started on sertraline, I had horrible diarrhea. My doc said that's not what's causing it. Well, after a month of watery diarrhea and having alot of irregular heartbeats probably from losing so much magnesium and fluid, I said it HAS to be what's causing this. So on my own, I went from 50mg down to 25 and it stopped. In fact, at that dose, it seemed to help my IBS-diarrhea. I googled it and I guess it is sometimes used in low doses for IBS diarrhea.
I think docs think that one size fits all, as far as meds, and that's just not true. Don't give up on the sertraline. I am doing well on just 25mg a day (for depression, and also it worked to help my IBS-D).
But the few times I tried to increase the dose, I would get the diarrhea back. You can give it a week or so, but I wouldn't keep having diarrhea beyond that. Good luck to you!
