Hi all. I am going on 3 months of being in constant pain and just want to see if anyone else has had similar problems...my medications are racking up and I'm getting exhausted (not to mention broke). I am a 27 year old healthy female. I am 5'1" and weigh 128 pounds, and I exercise for 30 minutes everyday. I am a vegetarian, cook most of my meals, and rarely eat fatty foods. I have, though, lost over 30 pounds in the past 2 years.
I have had perpetual pain in the middle of my right abdomen, around my right rib cage, right side, right rib cage on my back, and upper right shoulder and I've had cold chills off and on. I've had an ultrasound and a HIDA scan, both of which were normal. I had an endoscopy, which showed multiple ulcers and fungus on my esophagus early on - they gave me a pill for the esophagus which took most of the chills away, that I took for a week (this is in week 2 of the pain). They put me on nexium, but when my sample packs ran out, they switched to omeprazole in the morning and zantac before bed.
I'd still been having pain. I went to a surgical consult about
my gallbladder (5 weeks into pain), he ordered a CT scan of my abdomen and bowels. Both the GI and family doc told me those results came back normal, but the surgeon called to say he examined the results and I was severely constipated. The GI doctor argued with me about
this, saying the radiologist would have caught it if it was the case, but I did the high fiber and miralax regimen that the surgeon recommended anyways. Still in pain.
GI ordered a colonscopy. COMPLETELY normal. No inflammation or even polyps. He started me on Bentyl - saying it would reduce spasms from my colon or gall bladder. This was yesterday, over 2 1/2 months into pain. The pain didn't go away yesterday, when I took 2 doses. And I'm a little scared of it because I'm pretty sure I hallucinated in the night and woke up with a horribly dry mouth. It also says this can interact with antihistamines, of which I take many, as I have horrific allergy problems. I'm also not sure I should be taking it with 2 daily antacids. I'll call them back today and answer those questions, but I'm just not sure what to DO anymore.
My GI is out for 2 weeks. My family doctor has essentially said I can go to an anesthesiologist for pain management treatment and just have anesthesia injected into my side, which doesn't make me feel like the cause for it is being examined. I'm frustrated I can't see the GI again for 2 weeks, not sure what to do about
this medication, and wondering if I should have a follow up with the surgeon directly. I don't really want surgery if it's avoidable, but I'm also not sure what to do about
being in constant pain this long.
All of my blood tests have been normal as well. I started zovirax daily pills for horrific and frequent cold sore outbreaks in early December, and now I'm worried about
whether that pill could have led to all of this..I have an appt. with the dermatologist on Wed. to ask him. Tried to just stop taking it last week, and an outbreak began almost immediately. So far all doctors have told me that pill will likely not cause it. I also take daily anxiety medications. I have severe anxiety. Starting to be too many medications. My pill box looks like an old woman's, and I am 27.
I haven't had any days off from it, just it is better some days than others. I can't tell what the trend is when it's not so terrible. I haven't been able to lay on my right side for more than 30 seconds in over 2 months. No days are good enough to allow for that. Does anyone have any advice on medications or tests or doctors I should be seeing/what I should be saying?
