Hi there. I'm new to the board but not to IBS unfortunately! I've had it since 1987, but in all that time during the bouts of constipation and diarrhea I never had any pain. Since this past October I've had pain under my left rib cage and around the back, just as you mentioned and my Gastroenterologist says that it's the spasms of my colon that are causing the pain. I'm still on a journey of trying to find things that help, but so far I've found these things do: Walking, drinking lots of water (slowly), laying on my left side and moving my body forward and backward over the ribcage, eating oatmeal, cream of wheat, applesauce and canned peaches as well as alot of soup---all seem to help alot. My doctor gave me an antispasmodic as well, but it hasn't worked well for me, so when I see her next time I'm going to ask for a new one. (The one that didn't help was Dicyclomine--but I've heard it works well for other people, so it might be worth a try)
I'm sorry that you're going through this right now btw. Although I've never had gall bladder problems I do have pain almost every day and would love to wave a magic wand and make ALL of us feel better! :)
Take care,
Tracy
