Possible Newbie

Hi All,

I am usually on the GERD board, and am one of the moderators for that forum. However, my GI doctor believes I may also have IBS (fun times). My symptoms are back pressure that migrates into sharp stabbing pains under both ribs. Walking often helps, as well as passing gas. I am pretty regular, but I do alternate between having a difficult time going and having diarrhea. I am on a restricted diet (gluten free, very low lactose, non acidic) which has helped but these symptoms remain. I am on Nexium once a day for the GERD, and I am trying to ween off of it to see if the medication is causing the pains. Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

I also speculate that it could be gas. I try to eat slow and I only drink a sip or two of water after eating. I am playing around with my diet in regards to vegetables and fruits. I only really eat watermelon, edamame, broccoli and carrots due to the GERD diet. I am finding out that the watermelon and broccoli may need to be reduced, I was eating watermelon daily, and carrots a few times a week.

Thank you for your input. I have reduced the watermelon and I only occasionally eat broccoli. I guess I am down to carrots for vegetables and edamame. Most of my diet is protein and jasmine rice/potatoes and gluten free/lactose free products. I do take suppliments since it seems fruits and veggies may not be a good option anymore. With the GERD I am already limited.
