Besides having pain with diverticulitis can you also have pain with diverticulosis?  Is the pain with diverticulitis can it be right sided or left sided?  Across the abdomen?

Yes, I have pain with my diverticulosis but mainly if I eat something that I'm not supposed to. My diverticulitis attacks affected my entire large intestine (severe abdominal pain and cramping) but when my diverticulosis acts up, it's primarily at the pockets I have - which in my case I have one on the left and one on the right.

Can you have IBS and diverticulosis at the same time? I was first diagnosed with diverticulosis back in 2010 but when I went to see my Gastroenterologist last year he told me it wasn't diverticulosis but IBS and Acid Reflux which was reported as a result of my Colonoscopy. The cramping and diarrhea have gotten worse. After I ate a tuna sandwich with mayo and/or cereal with milk. I think I am also lactose intolerant. Is there a test for this? Could I also have Celliac's Disease and should I be on a Gluten-Free Diet. At this point in time, I am afraid to eating anything until I see my Gastroenterologist on Thursday.

There is a test for celiac disease. However, if you go gluten free before having the test it will come up negative. In regards to lactose intolerance, I don't know if there is a test for it. I am sorry you are having pain and diarrhea. And yes, one can have IBS and diverticulosis. If you have diverticulae, the GI would have seen the pouches in your colon when he did the colonoscopy. What medications did the GI give you for the IBS and acid reflux? Make sure you tell him that your symptoms have increased and you need different meds.

Pain levels very among people. What you might consider an 8 out of 10 pain, it might only be a 4 to me.

I went to the doctor. He doesn't think I have diverticulitis. I had my urine tested because I was also having pain after urination. I have a bladder infection and he's giving me 10 days of Cipro.  

If I do have diverticulitis is 10 days of Cipro enough??

If your pain is mild and not frequent, than more than likely it's your diverticulosis not diverticulitis. Do you have IBS as well? If so, the pains can also be from that. You can try eating a bland diet for a few days and see if that helps. But be sure to avoid the no-no foods such as seeds, nuts, celery, corn, alcohol and popcorn.

It doesn't sound like diverticulitis but if it is, 10 days of Cipro should be enough.
