Connection between bladder and bowel problems?

Hi All,
This is only my second post and I wonder if any. Of you have difficulty identifying whether it is the bowel or.bladder being troublesome. Seems to me that if one is out of whack, the other is also.

Ihave had two episodes of bladder CA and am being monitored every six months by my urologist. In addition, I have been diagnosed with IBS and severe diverticulosis.

At the present time I am waiting for the results of a urine culture. Have suffering for a couple of weeks with abdominal cramps and frequent BMs although not diarrhea. This may be the result of overheating and drinking over the holidays. The only medication I have been taking is Bentyl which does not seem to help too much.
In addition my bladder is not emptying completely.
Saw my GP yesterday and he is at a loss as to which problem is which.

I would really appreciate all thoughts on this subject.

Hello grammyjoan

From my experience i would say there is lots of connection between bladder (and other organs in the pelvic floor) and bowel problems. I have IBS, GERD, Pelvic pain which knocks me off my feet. When i have diarrhea or frequent bowel movement - i start getting stabbing pain in my front, problem with urinating, bladder not emptying properly. It takes a day to calm down. I had anal sphincterotomy for fissure which put me on lot of stress and strain leading to prostatitis. It also made my IBS worst. I am sure i have pelvic floor dysfunction and planning for pelvic floor rehabilitabtion.

I can say both contributes to each other. Keeping the bowel calm helps me in controlling chronic pelvic pain. I take prostate supplements for healthy urinary flow.
