Grumbly appendix or IBS

Having been treated for IBS and diverticulosis for years due to recurrent right sided pain, no severe, just a nagging ache, a CT scan revealed a growing inflammation in the appendix. Saw a surgeon and he said it is not an emergency situation but I might want to have elective surgery somewhere down the line. Problem is we have plans to be away for the next five weeks and I am feeling apprehensive but really do not want to cancel plans. (Going to visit 1 year old granddaughter). Have any of you ever heard of or dealt with a grumbling appendix.
