Hi all,

I was diagnosed with IBS about 15 years ago but for the past 4 years it has got worse to the point I continually go to the toilet, feel I need to go all the time, I have pains in the left side of my stomach and around my belly button every day, my left side of my stomach itches all the time there are no spots, rashes or raised lumps just my skin in that area is now brown also blood when I go not loads but there all the time, I also get horrendous heartburn to the point I'm sick or can't eat my GP has prescribed omeprazole, which helps slightly, i recently had Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy which on my diagnoses sheet he put gastritis and colitis as my Colonoscopy showed mucosa, patchy mild erythema and a few aphthous ulcers in my left colon, when went back to see him he said biopsies clear, there is redness and a few ulcers, not colitis not got celiac, he said he THINKS it's my IBS, cut out fibre and dairy products and if that doesn't help prescription antidepressant!!! Nothing for the ulcers is this right, I personally don't think it's my IBS but I'm not a doctor, has anyone any ideas x

First of all...find another doctor! IBS does not cause ulcerations. Ulcerations are primarily caused by an IBD. Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. I think that they can also be caused by parasites but don't quote me on that. Personally, it sounds like Crohn's to me but I'm not a doctor (none of us here are). But I highly encourage you to find another doc, preferably a gastroenterologist.

Betsy, I agree with Sherry! Find another doctor! Get copies of your colonoscopy and gastroscopy and copies of the pathology report. Then take those to a new gastroenterologist. If you are limited in who you can see, take the results to your GP and see if he/she will recommend a second opinion.

Sorry you are suffering so and that this doctor is a jerk!!!

Thank you Sherry and Ides for taking time out to reply to me,
it was the gastroenterlogy that I saw on my return trip to the hospital he just said that the ulcers are not showing colitis and that he thinks it's my IBS he didn't say anything about the gastritis apart from I had taken omeprazole before my procedure I explained I had to do to it was horrendous to the point I couldn't eat and if I tried I was sick but that still shown raised erosives, I have googled it and all leads to IBD. Last July I had to had blood test due to finding out I had extremely high BP, my liver one came back higher than normal and my GP asked if I was a drinker, no, he just said not sure as to why it's high we will do it again in a year as the reading before was high aswell and reading about IBD it's one of the signs, I've recently been suffering with itchy eyes a GP said it was hay fever this I don't suffer with, I'm due back at my GP's in a couple of weeks I will speak to him about it I personally don't think it's IBS and haven't for a long time as it's totally different from when I have flare ups, I constantly have stomach ache, the run, feeling I need to go all the time even if I've not eaten, can't pin point food as it's most foods, no medication has been given just to cut out wheat and dairy product, feeling totally fed up, thank you again your advice is valued xx

There are good GI's and there are bad GI's....sometimes it's about finding the right one. I hope you find a good one because it doesn't sound like this one is taking you seriously. How old are you now and how old were you when you started getting symptoms?

Hi Sherry I'm 46 I was about 30 when it started, your right i don't feel he is taking me seriously, at my appointment he just said it's my IBS but I will do the cameras as there is a history of bowel cancer in my family then it turns out I have got aphthous ulcers, redness and gastritis, how will I know if they've gone or got worse as I feel awful everyday and no medication has been prescribed I'm currently taking omeprazole for my heartburn my GP prescribed this as he is unaware of my results I'm back at my GP's in 2 weeks over my BP I will speak to him, I feel I'm just going on to him about it, thanks again Sherry x
