Mucus in stool

Occasionally I will see mucus in my stool, but it's not every time. Today I saw a fairly large strand of it. Any ideas? Since it just happens here and there (usually with mild diarrhea), is this cause for concern? My stomach is a bit aggravated.

Many of my movements have little to no smell, but I do sometimes have a fishy like smell on the toilet paper.

I have a history of GERD (had fundoplication surgery for it), take dicyclomine as needed, have been tested for blood in stool (no blood), but have been putting off having a stool culture done.

In the absence of any other issues, mucous in stool is not an issue.

Hi Smooth,
Just want to help reassure you that mucus is most generally present for something as simple as what you are eating... dairy can be one of the offenders even if you are not lactose intolerant.
You might try to recall what you ate the day before and maybe write it down...when you find it present again...do the same thing and then 'compare the notes'... good luck. I am sure all is well.

I did eat a bit more Greek yogurt this weekend, but not much more. Not to be too graphic, but there was like a solid stream of mucus at the end of the very small stool. It was just more than I'm used to seeing. I guess you could say it looked like a jellyfish almost.

After that surgery I had on my esophagus and stomach, I guess the little things worry me. I'll try and relax.

I meant to add that I've not been officially diagnosed with IBS. Dicyclomine is a medicine for it, though, so I hope I've posted on the right place.

I also failed to mention I sometimes have an urgency to go to the bathroom when I feel diarrhea coming on, but nothing is produced in the toilet. I'm hoping there is no blockage. Many movements seem normal especially in color, but shapes are inconsistent from movement to movement.

Mucus can be a sign of parasites of the intestines. These little guys can cause lots of trouble,

I sure hope it's not that. I experience little, if any, pain during my movemente .

I've put off my stool culture several months because I guess I was feeling better and getting the sample seems a bit complicated.

If you are feeling rectal pressure and find only mucous is expelled, I would suggest you see your DR. This is consistent with inflammation in the rectum, which should be addressed medically.

At least nothing is black and my doctor saw no blood a few months back, so there is that.

I find the dyclomjne helps some. Since the surgery 11 months ago, I've progressed and regressed. I just don't know.
