There are both hard candy and the soft type, I use the soft kind which has only three ingredients: ginger, cane sugar and tapioca starch. The pieces are pretty small.
The hard candy gin-gins have a different sugar, sucrose, and I'm not sure my IBS would like it (don't know for sure) so I stick to the soft type.
I guess you'd have to try one to see. I bought mine loose from a health store bin (they are ind. wrapped) so not a lot of $$ to find out for me. And last week a different store had small boxes of 10 gin-gins for 79 cents/box. Amazon's prices are high IMO so try local first. I live in a very small town and have 2 sources locally, one close and one 20 minutes away.
