I haven't seen this anywhere!
I'm having longer and longer periods of intense abdominal pain and no stool. With enemas (as the subject line says) all I get out are undigested things (ranging from a day or three ago to 4 hours ago), mucous and yellowish liquid. Kind of an atypical "constipation," because there isn't anything fecal to pass.
Then, just as suddenly, I will have to go 5 times a day - all soft, continuous (i.e. long) stools and/or short, mucousy, texted ones mixed in. In this case, passing is painful and difficult (like a burning sensation in my abdomen), also like the body has "forgotten" how to defecate.
I've talked with more than one GI, and both throw their hands up and say IBS can affect the entire GI tract, and cause some pretty strange things to happen (including undigested stuff). I try to emphasize it isn't undigested matter mixed with stool, but instead of stool.
I've had a colonoscopy within the past year and it was clean, but the problem wasn't really apparent then.
This is so painful (includes the classic IBS gas and bloating, making eating anything painful at times) it is nearly debilitating, likely to cost me job and ability to work basically because it makes me unreliable. Frustrating to feel like you have to go all the time, but nothing (formed) there. It even smells like vomit.
Again, doctors not too "concerned." IBS is a mystery and does strange things is what I get.
As a side note, 1) I've been "diagnosed" with Lyme (chronic version, alternative physician). It has been suggested that it has damaged the nervous system affecting the vagus nerve and bowel transit - if this is the cause, not sure what can be done. People with this either have to live with enemas or it resolves on its own.
2) I don't know if there is a relationship. I have an adrenal growth and high cortisol. Endocrinologist is testing for Cushings Disease, will know more soon. I've real a little about it - and that it can lead to IBS, but I dunno. My "case" is so atypical.
Anyway, anyone else experiencing a lack of stool formation with undigested food passing rapidly from stomach to large intestines? NOT FUN.
