With IBS, it's hard to know what to really be concerned about, and what to try to ignore.
For many years, I had some small ovarian cysts on my right ovary that would give me lots of intermittent pain. Sometimes, my lower right side would hurt for no reason at all. (probably at the juncture of small and large colons).
Last July, the pain just wouldn't go away, so I went to the E.R. and ended up having a laparoscopic appendectomy.
For six months I didn't have that old pain back. I would occasionally have stinging pain where they inserted the scopes (3 places). But about 2 months ago, I had nausea for about 2 weeks, then I developed horrible bloating and watery diarrhea. I cut way back on my eating, and everything seemed to heal. Then yesterday, I started having lots of diarrhea again and pain where my appendix used to be.
I did do a lot of work in the yard yesterday, so maybe I strained a muscle/ligament..........but the pain is soooooo similar to the appendix pain. I've quit eating the yogurt (Chobani with honey), in case that's been giving me diarrhea.
But now I'm concerned that it's something like adhesions (which are fairly rare with the lap method), or even an abscessed appy stump (which is also pretty rare).
I'm 65 and don't ovulate anymore.......so that's not the problem. I freak out whenever I think I have to go to the doc's......especially when my old GI doc got out of the business and I don't relish looking for a new one.
So.....long story even longer..........Anyone have experience with a lap appendectomy, and did it somehow affect your IBS in a negative way? I've read that maybe our appendicies are more important to our GI tracts than we realize. I've also read that the nerves around the old appendix site (plus the ones in our heads that regulate pain) can still be stimulated.
I also have organs that are sagging.......so maybe that's the problem.
darn........it's not easy growing old. :(
Any input here?
Thanks!
