Hi rondie123,
I agree, it's very individual from my experiences (I have crohn's as well, but thankfully it's finally in remission after 23 years of flaring all the way through and developing IBS around 13 years into having crohn's) I'm seeing a dietitian and she put me on the FODMAP no fructose diet and we are now going to start the re-introduction of everything she took out of my diet and I still have frequency along with some urgency, the diet managed to get my C in a better place but the last few days it's been getting tougher to pass BM's again and I still have frequency...she's determined that I should have had a much more settled tummy with this diet by now and that for me it's more than likely stress that's controlling my IBS more so than food but we're going to confirm all that with starting the re-intro of foods over the next 3 weeks to make sure I don't have any food intolerance issues affecting my gut as well because after going through that diet for the last 4 weeks I've come this far so I mine as well continue.
I'm seeing a therapist as well to help me with my anxiety and depression to aid my stress in hopes of calming my IBS down especially now that my crohn's is finally in remission and I haven't even been able to really enjoy it much at all.
You've been through the IBS ringer for so long, I feel terrible that you're still battling it like you are but I'm glad you've finally found some help and I hope it sticks for you.
Thanks for sharing you're experiences and I'm going to look into the book you suggested (IBS for dummies) would be perfect for me lol cuz I really though the diet thing (FODMAP) I've been putting myself through (It's a very tough diet, even dietitian told me yesterday not many people get through the diet without cheating and most don't even end up sticking through it at all so she was quite impressed with how serious and dedicated I've been to the FODMAP diet she put me on) thought it was really going to improve my issues but the only thing it's helped with a little is less straining to pass BM's however the last couple of days it's been getting tougher to do that so it's kinda freaking me out...therefore I'm going to check out the book you suggested.
