Chances of something going wrong are very small.
I think the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor, the nurses, the anesthesiologist. Let them know your fears--they are the best to give you advice, statistics, reassurance, and explain what will happen. Talking to them is the best way to lower your anxiety. Please tell them everything you are worried about or how bad your anxiety is for this! I promise you it will help tremendously. Much more than any responses on here will do for you.
But I will tell you, I had an endoscopy a couple weeks ago actually, along w/ colonoscopy, and had both less than a year ago also. It was very easy. They gave me some sedation, I don't remember a thing, had no issues w/ any sort of side effects or infection. It is just so unlikely. The reason you probably heard about the problems at the other hospital is because it is so rare, that when there is an issue, it's big news since it very very very rarely happens. But talk to your doctor. They know best. Let the nurses know you are feeling anxious--one of mine actually held my hand until they sedated me.
It's gonna be ok. Remember to breathe while waiting when you feel anxious, take someone with you who can help you relax or feel calmer.
