Hi everyone - I'm glad I've found this forum, but not happy at the same time because of the reasons I've had to use it.
(Got a new keyboard today so pardon any mistakes I may make!!)
Anyway, I'm 21 Male from the UK and have had this misery called "IBS" for 4 and a half years now. IIRC, it all started after a trip to Egypt in February 2011. Since then my bowels just haven't been right. Some periods are worse than others, and right now I'm going through a flare up!!
My symptoms:
* Shortly after awakening, I need to use the bathroom. Mostly, this poop actualy comes out fairly normal looking. But after this (not long after) I need to revisit the b'room to pass small but somewhat loose stools.
* Cramping before a BM - and a general abdominal discomfort.
* Discomfort after eating, sometimes eating actually makes me poop!
* Brown mucus on stool (is this normal???) it looked like blood but when I inspected it, it's definitely brown-clear mucus
* I also have GORD (or GERD) and Gastritis which seem to go hand in hand with IBS
Tests I've had:
* Multiple blood tests over the years (to check for anaemia etc)
* DRE
* A camera into my rectum (it wasn't a full blown colonoscopy and don't think it was a sigmoidoscopy either)
But I'm at my wits end!!! And I'm starting a new 9-5 job in a few weeks time, and I can't afford to be late for it because my bowels decided to act up. I'm begging anyone reading this if they have any tips on how to control IBS? Loperamide makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable so I don't like using it. My GP just seems to not care anymore and told me to avoid bread and use as much imodium as I like "within reason"
Although I'm only 21 I'm worried something more serious could be causing my symptoms... But would that be possible considering I've had them well over four years? HELP MUCH APPRECIATED & IM SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!!
