Question about Bentyl

My gastro gave me this for an as needed basis. I'm just a little scared to take it. I hear it can also be addictive. My "IBS" (eg, we don't know whats going on) has been acting up a lot the past month and no idea why. Actually it's been on/off since around Nov. 2014. I was fine for many years before that.
I'm working with my ND to find a cause.

Have you had luck with the Bentyl? Do you take it at the time you hear your stomach gurgling and freaking out?
I wanted to add she gave me 20mg tabs. Can I bite these in half?

The other Rx's I'm on are Gabapentin, Xanax and Prozac.

I've taken on and off 'as needed' for years. I have never noticed any side effects. I do believe strongly that it has helped me most of the time. It especially helps with stomach cramping issues. At times I feel like it might also help slow things down. I don't believe they are addictive. They work, and I don't take unless needed during flares only. I have always taken the 10mg little blue pills. Hope this is helpful and I hope your symptoms resolve soon.

I've taken Bentyl and Levsin and I didn't have any problems with them - not so sure they really helped either. I took it before every meal and it seemed to work well when my problems were minor. I've also taken Prozac and had severe panic attacks (while on Prozac). Since you're also taking Xanax, do you think the Prozac might be making your anxiety worse? It sure made me extra-anxious. Point being, when I got off Prozac I also got off Xanax regularly and now use them only when I have an IBS-C/Gastritis attack. Once off the Prozac my panic attacks almost stopped but my stomach issues got worse so I switched to Celexa. All the health sites talk about adding an anti-depressant to my ever-growing pile of meds, but none of them really address the stress, panic, and anxiety of these types of stomach problems. I'm wondering how your mix is working with your IBS?
