Hmmm....what kind of colitis runs in your family?
My mom had ulcerative colitis and I have crohn's disease, which actually started with perianal crohn's skin tags that every doc who looked at them told me they were hemmies (this was bac when I was a teenager, that's when they started but I didn't get internal CD until a yr and a half after having my first baby---had baby in 1990 and then sick internally with CD in 1991 but not DX until April 1992) I technically have crohn's colitis as it mainly affects my colon, on and off in the rectum (but in remission with Humira now) with crohn's colitis it's fairly common to get the perianal crohn's skin tags as well.
I've never known that fissures can start out as a skin tag, I had fissures too early when I first became sick but I had the perianal crohn's skin tags long before I ever had any fissures, fissures didn't happen until I was sick internally with CD and having frequent D caused the fissures...my perianal crohn's skin tags would come and go all on their own before my first pregnancy and every doc that saw them said they were hemmies but they weren't...it didn't even make sense since I never had constipation or diarrhea issues when the anal skin tags first started to appear when I was a teenager, so believing they were hemmies, after I had my first baby the tags became even bigger and more bothersome then I started having lots of frequency issues but not and diarrhea, my stools were still normal and formed but I started having way more bowel movement urges and couldn't hold them in like I was always able to (my doc at the time, as well as the surgeon, totally disregarded the frequency issue I told them was happening) so still being told they were hemmies they banded them which they never should have done since they were what's called a flared state (large and hard) and since they banded them they've never gone away like they use to.
I think to be on the safe side you should get another opinion and ask the next GI about perianal crohn's skin tags, they're distinctive looking (which is what pisses me off so much since they really don't resemble an actual hemmie) google pics of perianal crohn's skin tags and hemmies and you'll see there's quite a difference, but I got screwed over by a ton of useless docs (including the colon and rectum surgeon who should have known better at least that ended up being the dummy that banded my anal skin tags) so keep looking for answers. Crohn's can start off as constipation, not necessarily in all cases, but it did for me about a month before all hell broke loose.
